Not every seller on your marketplace works the same way. Some sell high-value products. Some move large volumes at low prices. Nexus lets you set up commission structures that reflect how your marketplace actually works.
Here are the three ways you can charge commission from a seller.
1. Default commission
Every seller has a default commission rate. This applies to all their orders unless you add a custom rule on top. You can set it as a percentage or a flat value.
Percentage works well when your sellers have a wide price range. If a seller sells products anywhere between ₹500 and ₹50,000, a percentage means your earnings scale with theirs. You earn more on premium products without any extra setup.
Flat value works well when your sellers get frequent orders at low ticket sizes. Instead of calculating a percentage on each small order, you charge a fixed amount. Simpler to track and more predictable for both sides.
2. Order price based rules
You can add rules that change the commission automatically based on how much the order is worth.
For example, a marketplace might set it up like this:
Orders below ₹1,000 attract a flat ₹20 commission
Orders between ₹1,000 and ₹5,000 follow the default 10%
Orders above ₹5,000 drop to 8%
The last rule is useful if you want to incentivize sellers to push higher value products or bundles. They keep more of a big order, which makes it worth their while.
Nexus applies these rules automatically. You don't need to calculate anything per order.
3. Product type and tag based rules
If a seller lists multiple types of products, you can charge different commission rates per product type or tag.
For example, a marketplace with both wellness and supplement products might set:
Wellness products at 15% commission
Supplement products at 30% commission
Everything else at the default 10%
The higher commission on supplements reflects the higher margin in that category. Nexus matches the rule to the product automatically at the time of payout.
How rules work together
You can combine order price rules and product type rules for the same seller. Nexus checks all active rules and applies the right one based on what was sold.
Any product or order that doesn't match a custom rule always falls back to the default commission. You don't need to create a catch-all rule.
💡 Tip
Start with a default rate and add custom rules only where you have a clear reason. Too many rules can get hard to manage.
