How to add custom product fields on Nexus

Collect product details from your sellers that Shopify does not capture by default.

Custom fields let you collect details specific to your products, like material, size, or care instructions. You define a field once, and every seller fills it in for their own products. This guide shows you how to create one and where it appears.

Step 1: Open Product fields

Go to Settings from the sidebar and click Product fields.

Step 2: Add a custom field

Scroll down to the Add custom field button.

💡 Already using Shopify metafields?

If you have field definitions in Shopify, Nexus syncs them automatically when you install it. You do not have to recreate them here.

Step 3: Define the field and save

Give the field a name and choose its type. You can pick any type, from number to text to a checkbox. In this example, we collect the type of hair the extensions are made of. When you are done, click Save.

⚠️ One-time sync only.

Nexus syncs your existing Shopify metafields once, at install. Any metafield you add in Shopify after that will not sync automatically. Define those directly in Nexus using the steps below.

Step 4: See the field on a product

You and your sellers now see the new field on any existing product and on the Add products page. Your seller fills in the value for each product.

⚠️ Field values need your approval.

When a seller fills in or updates a custom field, the change comes to you for approval before it goes live, the same as any other product edit.

How to view this custom field on Shopify

You can also view this field on your storefront on Shopify. Go to Shopify, open Settings, and find the metafield definition. Nexus has synced it there for you.

💡 Good to know

Because the field syncs to Shopify as a metafield, you can show it on your storefront theme, just like any other Shopify metafield.

That is it. Add as many fields as you like. Remember, you define the fields, and your sellers fill in the value for each product.
